Food waste is one of the biggest environmental and social challenges in Europe today. But why do we waste so much food? And what can we do to prevent it? In this video, our partner and coordinator, the Municipality of Calles (Spain), presents the door-to-door collection system implemented locally as a successful good practice. This system helps reduce waste, improve recycling rates, and promote responsible consumption at the community level. Let’s work together to reduce food waste and build more sustainable communities!
What are the 4Rs of food waste management and why do they matter? In this video, we explain in a simple and clear way how the 4Rs – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover – help us prevent food waste and protect the environment.
By applying the 4Rs in our daily lives, we can all contribute to reducing food waste and building more sustainable communities.
How is food waste connected to sustainable development? This video focuses on Sustainable Development Goal 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production, one of the 17 goals adopted by the United Nations. SDG 12 calls for more efficient use of natural resources, reduction of waste generation, and more sustainable consumption patterns. Food waste is a key part of this challenge. When we waste food, we also waste water, energy, land, and labor. By preventing food waste, improving waste separation, and adopting sustainable daily habits, we actively contribute to achieving SDG 12 and promoting the circular economy. Reducing food waste is not just an environmental responsibility — it is a step toward a more sustainable future.
